Prof Michael MURPHY

Prof Michael Murphy is President-Elect of the European University Association. A medical graduate of University College Cork (UCC) in Ireland, he undertook doctoral research at The Royal Postgraduate School in London prior to faculty positions at The University of Chicago. Following return to Ireland in 1992 he served sequentially as Professor of Clinical Pharmacology, Dean of Medicine and from 2007-17 President of University College Cork. As President, he supported the student leaders in shaping a comprehensive Sustainability agenda such that UCC became the first university in the world to be awarded the Green Flag by the Federation for Environmental Education, the first certified ISO50001 compliant university and the first in Europe awarded gold star rating by the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Education (AASHE). Murphy’s academic expertise has been in the clinical pharmacology of cardiovascular medicines. He has served on EUA Board since 2017.
