Professor John O’HALLORAN

Professor John O’HALLORAN is Deputy President & Registrar at University College Cork, Ireland, where he holds the highest academic office. He is an academic leader with an ambitious vision for the future of Higher Education. He is also Chair of Zoology and has published over 200 research papers and a number of books on ecology, ornithology, ecotoxicology and biodiversity. Professor O’Halloran has led the transformation of Higher Education provision at UCC, particularly in the area of sustainability. Under his leadership, UCC’s Green Campus Programme became the first third level institution worldwide to receive the Green Campus award in 2010. Since then it has achieved significant impacts including the development of a Sustainability Strategy, and has won a large number of international environmental awards. The journey in sustainability and the development of the green agenda at UCC has influenced national government policy and is now being rolled out across higher education institutions. In ARC7, Professor O’Halloran is a speaker in the Working Group Session Part 2 “Taking Action at Home: SDGs as Core Pillars of University Governance”.
